Join the Fight with Food Lifeline
Food insecurity is a harsh reality for many, and in Washington state, the numbers are particularly troubling. Currently, one in nine Washingtonians does not have enough food on their table. This could be someone you know—a neighbor, a friend, or a family member. Since 2019, the number of individuals relying on food assistance has shockingly increased from 700,000 to 1.7 million annually. Factors like the COVID-19 pandemic, rising inflation, and escalating living costs have exacerbated these numbers, underscoring a crisis that continues to deepen.
At Food Lifeline, addressing this urgent need is at the core of what we do. Our organization operates on a large scale, partnering with 299 agencies across western Washington to distribute food through more than 500 sites in 17 counties. Our network includes meal programs, shelters, and food banks, all united in the mission to combat hunger. However, the scope of food insecurity is vast, and our efforts extend beyond immediate relief.
We are keenly aware that certain groups—seniors, veterans, and BIPOC communities—face a disproportionate impact when it comes to food insecurity. That's why Food Lifeline not only focuses on short-term food distribution but also invests in long-term solutions aimed at fundamentally altering the landscape of hunger. Through advocacy, research, and community engagement, we strive to address and alleviate the root causes of food insecurity.
